Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Kayla, our Client Account Coordinator, whose journey from the world of journalism to marketing has been driven by a lifelong passion for storytelling and community connection.
From Newsroom Storyteller to Marketing Strategist
Kayla’s career path has always been guided by a love for the written word. “Ever since I was a kid, I loved writing and storytelling,” she shares. “The perfect combination of words could deliver important messages and convey powerful meaning—it just drew me in.” This fascination led her to study journalism in college, eventually spending several years in the news field, where she covered everything from breaking news to community issues.
Her favorite part of journalism was feature writing, highlighting local organizations and businesses and helping them share their unique stories, hopes, and goals with a wider audience. She fondly recalls featuring a local board game creator who found healing through his creation, two entrepreneurs launching a music discovery app for local bands, and a violinist who began learning the instrument in his 60s. After 3.5 years in news, Kayla made the switch to marketing, realizing it was a natural extension of her passion.
“I was drawn to marketing because it connects with a lot of the things I loved in journalism: meeting incredible people, hearing their passions, and learning what inspired them to create their businesses,” Kayla explains. What she loves most about her role now is the ability to translate those client stories and ideas into effective marketing strategies that make their dreams a reality. “I love being able to help people and play a role in their business journey.”
Turning Client Dreams into TV-Worthy Reality
When asked what she enjoys most about her role at Elle Marketing and Events, Kayla doesn’t hesitate to praise the people she works with. “I absolutely love our team. We are made up of dedicated, passionate individuals who really know their stuff—I’m proud to be part of such an amazing team!”
A recent accomplishment she is particularly proud of involved assisting a client with their first-ever television appearance. “They did an amazing job!” Kayla says. “It was great to be able to use the knowledge I garnered in my previous career to help someone book a TV segment, prep for it, and carry it out successfully.”
Kayla approaches challenges with a clear focus on the bigger picture. “It’s important to keep our long term goals in mind,” she says. “Taking a step back helps us understand how to navigate obstacles without losing sight of what really matters.” This perspective keeps her from fixating on a problem and ensures the team still meets the end goal.
The Vinyl Collector, The Piano Player, and the Power of Curiosity
Outside of Elle Marketing and Events, music is a major passion for Kayla. She has been collecting vinyl records for over a decade, finding joy in “the thrill of the hunt and unexpected” finds at record stores. She grew up singing in choir and playing piano, an instrument she recently started learning again.
When she’s not immersed in music, you can find her spending time outdoors, trying delicious food, reading, or writing for fun. However, the most important thing in life for her is the time she spends with loved ones, which includes prioritizing time with her family, friends, and her chihuahua, Jake.
Kayla’s guiding philosophy is that every single day is an opportunity to learn something new. “I really try to implement that in my life, and strive to continue doing so ,” she notes, citing her decision to learn ballroom dance at 17, re-learn piano this year, and make the career jump from journalism to marketing.
Driving Results and Learning Forever
Looking ahead, Kayla is excited to continue growing herself in her role as Client Account Coordinator, learning more, and helping to create and share more impactful stories for Elle Marketing’s clients.
“I just want to be the best client account coordinator I can be and continue to foster meaningful relationships with our clients that lead to their success,” she states. “I’m excited to draw from my journalism experience, drive results, and help clients reach their full potential.”
