Perfume Punk’s President, Mark Mason Taylor Honored With Rising Star Award By American Rose Society
Perfume Punk, an acclaimed landscaper specializing in engineered, water-efficient, and cost-conscious rose gardens, takes immense pride in announcing that its CEO, Mark Mason Taylor, has received the illustrious Rising Star Award from the American Rose Society.
The award was bestowed at the society’s recent National Convention held in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Rising Star Award shines a spotlight on those under 45 who have significantly contributed to advancing the appreciation and culture of roses, our national floral emblem.
Mark Mason Taylor, an IT professional by trade, stands as a prominent figure in rose cultivation and sustainability. As the Strategic Development Chair for the Utah Rose Society (URS), Taylor has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to promoting the culture of roses.
Rising Star Award from the American Rose Society
Taylor made a significant contribution in unearthing and confirming the founding year of URS as 1935. Under his innovative leadership, URS membership has witnessed a remarkable surge of 121% due to a discount program he initiated. He has delivered rose-related presentations in his community, authored a wealth of articles, and spearheaded the development of a new URS website.
On a broader level, Taylor has fostered a beneficial relationship with the Utah State University Extension Division, providing the public with updated insights about landscaping with roses. His role as an evaluator for the American Rose Trials for Sustainability program at the Conservation Garden Park in West Jordan, Utah, further highlights his commitment to sustainability.
I’m the first Utahn and the first rosarian from the Rocky Mountain District to win. This is the start of something big.
Reflecting on the award, Taylor stated, “Monday through Friday, I work as an IT professional, and we never get awards, so for me, it’s like a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I’m the first Utahn and the first rosarian from the Rocky Mountain District to win. This is the start of something big.”
Taylor envisions a climate change countermeasure through roses. “Roses use 50% less water than grass, and 90% of the world’s rose oil is grown in a climate just like ours. The rose isn’t just our national floral emblem; it’s a powerful weapon to combat climate change. This award changes my dream to a vision, from a possibility to a promise, from a hope to reality,” he added.
Under Taylor’s guidance, Perfume Punk is committed to creating a sustainable and vibrant landscape in Utah. His award is a testament to Perfume Punk’s ongoing mission to develop water-efficient, low-maintenance, and cost-conscious landscaping and rose gardens.
Additionally, Dr. Mark Windham, eminent rose educator and authority on rose rosette disease, has been awarded the prestigious Joseph and Marion Klima Medal for Excellence in Rose Education at the event.
